I Ching Hexagrams - Limitation

Limitation (Chieh)

Chieh- Limitation: The Water is above the Lake. If there is too much Water in the Lake, it overflows and floods everything in the vicinity. If the water level is low, water life suffers. Controlling our energies is just like controlling the Water. If there’s too much energy, the dam breaks and extremities beat a path. In the opposite the lack of energy means hardship in times you would need it.

I Ching Hexagrams – Limitation: meaning of the lines

Line 1: Have self-control, don’t do anything, don’t act, keep calm to avoid trouble.

Line 2: Self-restraint is necessary but we shouldn’t close ourselves in. If we do so, the dam breaks and the water floods everything.

Line 3: It takes great effort to keep the flow. If we stop the dam breaks. The problem should be seen in advance or it’ll be too late.

Line 4: Self-control is a rhythmical and regular action. Everything will be okay with permanence.

Line 5: Those who rule their life can gain others love and respect.

Line 6: This position denotes exaggerated self-control, unreasonable discipline and abnormal self-restraint.
